With the Tweed and its famous salmon fishing right at your doorstep, the Borders are a perfect place to drop a line.
The Tweed is widely recognised as the most prolific salmon river in the North Atlantic and the Tweed’s rod fishery has the longest open season of any river in the UK. It opens on 1st February and closes on 30th November, giving anglers the opportunity to fish for salmon in most seasons. The early part of the season can see ‘springer’ salmon coming into the River Tweed, whilst the latter part of the season, from September to November, is usually the most prolific.
The river Tweed is renowned for its game fishing but has more to offer than just salmon: plenty of sea-trout, brown trout and grayling are caught here every season.
