We wish you a lovely Hogmanay

A short summary of 2022:

This was a lovely year for us at Bowden House B&B, Melrose. We welcomed back many previous guests and made lots of new friends with people from all over the world. The Scottish weather presented itself from its best side this season and the gardens looked stunning. Lots of breakfasts on the terrace in balmy weather - a brilliant start of the day for all our visitors.

We welcomed a lot of active holiday guests who decided to explore Melrose and the Scottish Borders via (E)bike or walking the Eildon Hills with some even daring to swim in the River Tweed! The impressive formal gardens around us also attracted many new guests to visit the area. With European summer temperatures reaching an all time high, holiday makers from abroad were drawn to the cooler Scottish climate. Some of them were surprised to get a sunburn in the South of Scotland whilst exploring the sites and countryside around Melrose :-).

For the first time, we had several fishermen staying at our wee Melrose B&B and we learned a lot about salmon and trout fishing. (Very tempted to try out fly-fishing soon!). Another highlight included meeting some wonderful guests from India who came for a Scottish wedding and posed for us in our garden in their exquisite silk saris. We also found out more about the fabulous Ebike opportunities in the Borders through a Latvian couple that decided to explore the Borders countryside by bike! Interesting discussions with our visitors enhanced our lives and created so many lovely memories in 2022.

In August we were nominated as finalists for the prestigious Thistle Award but unfortunately we did not win it. However, we did end up receiving two other awards and so are not too disappointed!

2022 has passed by in a flash for our Melrose B&B and we are now putting up Christmas decoration to get into the festive spirit. Hogmanay is around the corner and we are excited to start the new year. The video above gives you a good insight into the celebrations around Scotland and the traditions of the 31st of December. We will definitely visit our neighbours with coal, shortbread and whisky to celebrate the start of 2023.
